Impunity Threatens Journalism

While the city of Aden has witnessed a relative improvement in the climate of press freedoms since last January, armed men believed to be affiliated with military formations linked to the Southern Transitional Council (STC) stormed the headquarters of the Aden Al-Ghad newspaper, looting and destroying its contents by force. The attack resulted in minor injuries to journalists Nasser Al-Zaydi and Maher Al-Barsha during the raid.

Despite surveillance cameras documenting the perpetrators and arrest warrants being issued against some of them, they have not yet been apprehended, raising serious concerns about the continued climate of impunity. In addition, Al-Araby TV correspondent Omar Al-Muqrimi faced a campaign of incitement and threats due to his coverage of the incident.
