Third Yemeni Media Conference Successfully Concluded
On Friday, September 20, 2024, the Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen and the Studies and Economic Media Center (SEMC) concluded the virtual Third Yemeni Media Conference.
The Conference, which lasted for five days, addressed two main topics: media freedom and digital transformation, as they are considered key elements for the future of journalism in Yemen.
Mustafa Nasr, Chairman of SEMC, explained that the Conference achieved its goal of exchanging experiences and ideas between journalists, women journalists, experts, and academics, with the aim of promoting freedom of expression and utilizing optimal technological means to enable journalism to reach its audience.
Nasr added that the Conference presented important information and mechanisms by a group of experts in the fields of journalism, law, and technology. This took place over 11 diverse sessions, including training and discussion sessions that addressed the most prominent developments in media both locally and globally, as well as in-person training sessions held in several Yemeni governorates.
Moreover, Nasr called for the urgent release of kidnapped journalists and all detained employees of local and international organizations and diplomatic missions. He emphasized that these unlawful detentions are a crime, and those responsible must be held accountable, with compensation provided to the victims and their families.
Meanwhile, during the Conference sessions, the Media Freedoms Observatory organized a series of in-person and virtual training workshops, benefiting around 150 journalists and media students from the provinces of Taiz and Marib. Those workshops covered topics related to legal awareness and psychological support.
The Conference featured 11 sessions with diverse topics and speakers, reflecting the wide interest of Yemeni journalists in contemporary issues.
It is worth noting that the Media Freedom Observatory in Yemen is a monitoring and information platform aimed at disseminating information related to freedom of opinion and expression across Yemen’s various governorates in a professional and independent manner. It also focuses on analyzing and advocating for journalists’ issues at both the local and international levels.
