Marsadak Denounces Abuse and Incitement Campaigns Targeting Media Figure Hanan Faze
The Yemeni Media Freedoms Observatory (Marsadak) is closely monitoring the campaigns of incitement and abuse targeting Hanan Faze, a presenter on Al-Mahriya TV. These campaigns have included offensive and inflammatory rhetoric, as well as allegations and accusations affecting her private and professional life, in clear violation of her fundamental rights, most notably her right to dignity and reputation. Moreover, these campaigns pose a threat to her personal and psychological safety.
Marsadak strongly condemns these practices, emphasizing that smear and incitement campaigns against journalists are among the most dangerous forms of violations that undermine freedom of opinion and expression, as well as press freedom. Such campaigns contribute to creating a hostile environment targeting media professionals and limit their ability to perform their duties independently and safely.
Marsadak also stresses that this type of abuse, especially when it takes on a personal or social dimension, reflects a troubling pattern of gender-based violations used as a tool to target women journalists and media professionals. This calls for urgent intervention by the relevant authorities to put an end to these practices, hold all those involved in publishing or promoting such campaigns accountable, and take effective measures to curb hate speech and defamation, particularly in digital spaces, in order to ensure there is no impunity.
Through its legal unit, the Marsadak affirms its readiness to provide legal support and assistance to Hanan Faze and all women journalists subjected to similar violations, and to pursue these cases through available legal channels to ensure accountability and prevent impunity.
