Marsadak Condemns YOU for Hacking Journalist Al-Jaradi

Obad Al-Jaradi

The Media Freedom Observatory (Marsadak) strongly condemns the privacy violation of journalist Obad Al-Jaradi by the Yemeni Omani Telecommunications Company, YOU.

The company allowed Al-Jaradi’s phone number to be illegally taken away, his accounts to be seized, and his photos and data to be stolen and used for blackmail.
In a report submitted to the Observatory, Al-Jaradi, a member of the International Sports Media Federation, stated that he was hacked and compromised by influential figures in Sana’a, with the help of YOU. The company facilitated the illegal taking of his personal phone number and the seizure of his social media accounts. They also seized several media pages he owns and manages, including “Yemeni Sports News,” “Wahdat Sana’a Club Page,” and “Yemenis in America – The largest Yemeni Community in the United States.” These pages were then placed under the control and management of influential figures in Sana’a.

This incident adds to the growing list of violations threatening the lives and work of journalists, with their families also being targeted.
The Observatory holds YOU fully responsible for this unethical crime and demands a clear explanation for this abuse. It also calls for those responsible to be prosecuted and punished appropriately. Additionally, the Observatory insists on restoring all stolen accounts and data and compensating the journalist for all losses and damages.

The Observatory stands firmly with Al-Jaradi in his lawsuit against YOU and will provide him with digital and legal support locally, regionally, and internationally through its network of lawyers and cybersecurity specialists.
