Marsadak Condemns Attempted Murder of Journalist Shubaita

The Media Freedom Observatory in Yemen (Marsadak) vehemently condemns the direct attacking and attempted murder of the Secretary-General of the Yemeni Journalists’ Syndicate (YJS), Mohammed Shubaita, by an armed assailant in the capital, Sana’a, on May 7, 2024.

According to a report by the YJS, Shubaita was targeted in a drive-by shooting near the Ministry of Information in Sana’a on Tuesday. An armed assailant opened fire on Shubaita’s vehicle, killing his cousin and injuring another relative. Shubaita himself sustained two gunshot wounds, one in the leg and one in the abdomen. He is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

Marsadak strongly condemns the brutal attack on journalist Shubaita and firmly rejects these heinous acts against the remaining journalists in Houthi-controlled areas.
Marsadak holds the Houthi group and the security agencies under its control responsible for the attack on journalist Shubaita. It demands that immediate action be taken to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice, ensuring they receive the deterrent punishment they deserve.
