Security Measures and Inciting Rhetoric Against Journalists
January 2026 witnessed the continued perpetration of violations against journalists in Yemen, including security measures targeting media professionals in Taiz Governorate due to their journalistic work and expressed opinions.
Among these violations was the issuance of arrest warrants against journalist Jamil Al-Samet in connection with publication-related cases, in the absence of any legal basis that would justify restricting rights or suspending constitutional guarantees.
These violations were accompanied by an escalation in inciting and hate-based rhetoric within media discourse, posing a serious threat to journalists’ safety and undermining freedom of expression as well as the ethics of journalistic practice.
