Marsadak Welcomes Aden Prosecution’s Decision to Dismiss Case Against Journalist Abdulrahman Anis

The Yemeni Media Freedom Observatory (Marsadak) welcomes the decision issued by the Press and Publications Prosecution in Aden, which ruled that there are no grounds to initiate criminal proceedings in the case filed against journalist Abdulrahman Anis by the dissolved Southern Transitional Council (STC).

The case followed the summoning of journalist Anis on November 9, 2025, based on a complaint accusing him of public incitement and spreading false information through his social media platforms. Upon reviewing the submitted materials, the prosecution determined that the legal elements of the alleged offenses were not met. It concluded that the content in question falls within the scope of opinion and general criticism related to public affairs and does not constitute incitement or the dissemination of false information that could threaten social peace.

Marsadak expresses its appreciation for the role of the judiciary in addressing cases related to freedom of expression in a manner that upholds justice and reinforces the rule of law, particularly in matters concerning journalistic work and freedom of opinion.

At the same time, Marsadak underscores the importance of safeguarding the right of all parties to seek legal recourse, while ensuring the highest standards of transparency and impartiality. It also stresses the need to guarantee fair legal procedures for journalists, in line with constitutional principles and international standards on freedom of expression.

Marsadak further notes that journalist Abdulrahman Anis has recently been subjected to incitement campaigns and threats due to his writings and views. This highlights the urgent need to promote a safe and enabling environment where journalists can carry out their work freely and responsibly, without fear or intimidation.
