The Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen condemned the arrest of journalist Muhammad Massad, who was the director general of the government news agency in the capital Sana’a.
Journalist Massad was detained in the Revolution Department in the city of Marib for two days without legal justification, and was released through the mediation of a local authority official in Al-Jawf Governorate, where Massad previously worked as director of the Al-Jawf Media Office.
The Observatory considered these practices a flagrant violation of the freedom of opinion and expression guaranteed to them by international laws and covenants.
The observatory also called on the security authorities to assume their responsibility in protecting journalists and the necessity of providing the appropriate atmosphere for journalists to practice their media work freely.
