MARSADAK: Urges Urgent Investigation into Attack on Journalist Mujahid Al-Qubb
The Marsadak (Yemeni Media Freedom Observatory) strongly condemns the shooting incident that left journalist and human rights advocate Mujahid Al-Qubb injured on Tuesday evening in Al-Shamayatayn district, Taiz governorate. A bullet fired at his home in the Dhibhan area penetrated the door and struck him in the shoulder. The identity of the assailant and the motive remain unknown.
The Marsadak holds local security authorities in Taiz fully accountable for safeguarding journalists and human rights defenders, stressing the urgent need to open a transparent and credible investigation. It called for the swift identification and prosecution of those responsible to ensure justice and prevent impunity.
This is not the first time Al-Qubb has been targeted. In September 2023, he was assaulted and arbitrarily detained by armed personnel affiliated with the Military Ninth Giants Brigade, affiliated with Yemeni government, in the same district, reflecting the ongoing climate of intimidation and violations against journalists and rights advocates in Yemen.
Reaffirming its solidarity with Al-Qubb, the Marsadak renewed its call for creating a safe and enabling environment for journalists and human rights defenders to carry out their work without fear of threats, violence, or harassment.
The Marsadak stressed that such measures are essential to uphold Yemen’s national and international commitments to the protection of press freedom and freedom of expression.
