Media Freedom Observatory documented 89 violations against media freedoms during 2022

It has documented 89 violation cases against media freedoms in Yemen during 2022 by Media Freedom Observatory; ranging among murder, injured, arrest, attack and targeting media foundations, and the prominent violation was murdering the journalists Fawaz Alwafi and Saber Alhaidari.

Also, it has monitored an injury case plus to the two murder cases, 13 arrests, 18 attacks, 13 threat, 9 detonation, 3 incitement, prevention of filming and hacking of a journalist’s account, 13 prosecution and summoning of journalists to the prosecutor’s office and 17 violation cases against media organizations.

The Yemeni Government and the parties in its areas of control has topped the list of perpetrators of violations against journalists in Yemen with 46 violations of the total number of cases recorded over the last year; 19 violations by the Houthi, 16 violations of a register against perpetrators and 7 against anonymous.

In addition; it has monitored in the report 19 cases of violations in Aden, 15 in Sana ‘a, 14 Taiz, 12 in Marib, 11 in Hadramawt and 6 cases in Shabwa governorate. Also, it has monitored 5 cases of violation recorded in Lahij and 2 in Socotra, but in Hodeidah and Almahra have recorded one violation in each governorate last year.

Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen is a monitoring and information platform aimed at disseminating all matters relating to freedom of opinion and expression in various regions of Yemen in a professional and independent manner, with analyzing and advocating for journalists’ issues at the local and international levels.
