Urgent Calls to Ensure Payment of Overdue Salaries for Employees of Yemen’s State Media

Marsadak (Yemeni Media Freedom Observatory) has received multiple reports from journalists and employees working in state-run media institutions, reporting that their financial entitlements have not been paid for more than nine months, a situation that has directly impacted their living and humanitarian conditions.

According to the reports, employees in the Yemen’s official media sector are facing increasing difficulties for the second year in a row due to irregular salary payments. Many have become unable to meet basic family needs, pay rent, or cover transportation costs to reach their workplaces.

The Marsadak affirms that the continuation of this situation constitutes a clear violation of the right to fair and regular wages, a right guaranteed by Yemeni legislation and international labor standards. It further exacerbates the suffering of journalists, especially those who have been displaced or forced to leave the country, bearing additional burdens as a result.

Marsadak calls on the Yemeni government, represented by the Presidential Leadership Council and the Prime Minister, to take urgent measures to ensure the immediate disbursement of the suspended salaries, settle all arrears, and uphold their legal and ethical responsibility toward employees in state media institutions,  guaranteeing them a dignified life and enabling them to perform their professional duties without economic pressure or hardship.
