Al-Qaeda Announces Execution of Journalist Al-Maqri
After nine years of mystery and searching, a tragic announcement has ended the long wait. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, classified as a terrorist organization, has declared the execution of Yemeni journalist Mohammed Al-Maqri, who had been held captive in the group’s prisons since October 2015. At the time of his abduction, Al-Maqri was working as a correspondent for Yemen Today TV channel.
According to Al-Qaeda ‘s statement, the execution took place earlier, without notifying his family or any human rights organizations that had been following his case since his abduction.
This announcement sparked profound shock and sorrow, as hope had persisted for knowledge of his fate or his release.
As a monitoring Observatory, we condemn this criminal act, which contravenes all moral and religious principles and violates international laws and human values.
We call on the Yemeni government and the international community to take urgent action to protect journalists, investigate this heinous crime, and hold the perpetrators accountable.
