Two (2) cases of violation against media freedoms in August 2023
The Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen released its monthly report “Infographic” on the status que of media freedoms and the arbitrary practices against journalists and media organizations.
During August, the Observatory recorded two violations in the governorates of Sana ‘a and Taiz.
Most notably, the fact that the journalist and owner of “the Voice of Yemen Radio Station” Majali al-Samadi was physically assaulted by an armed group of five who beat him in front of his home, due to his media engagement and constant demands to restore his broadcasting equipment “looted by the leadership of the Houthi Ministry of Information since July last year.
The report also referred to the parties that committed violations against journalists, as one case committed by the Houthi group, and the another case committed by the Yemeni Internationally Recognized Government, which arrested and imprisoned journalist Jameel al-Sami in Taiz city due to his press releases on social media.
The Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen is a monitoring and information platform aimed at disseminating all matters relating to freedom of expression in various governorates of Yemen in a professional and independent manner, as well as analyzing and advocating for journalists’ issues at the local and international levels.
