Violations Cases Against Media in Yemen In May 2023

The Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen released its monthly report “Infographic” on the status of media freedoms and the arbitrary practices against journalists and media outlets.

During May, the Observatory recorded 4 cases of violations, ranging from three (3) cases of

threating to the detention of journalist Abdullah Bamneev in Hadramawt governorate because of his post on the Facebook.

Those violations were committed in Sana’a, 2 cases, and in Marib and Hadramawt governorates, one case per each.

The report pointed out the parties committed such violations, as the Houthi group committed two 2 cases, while Yemeni government and unknown entities committed two other cases, one per each.

The Media Freedoms Observatory in Yemen is a monitoring and information platform aimed at disseminating all matters relating to freedom of expression in various governorates of Yemen in a professional and independent manner, as well as analyzing and advocating for journalists’ issues at the local and international levels.
